Fused Applique Techniques and Tips

Fused Applique can be as simple as shown in the examples below. Hearts are fused onto background fabrics using a fusible web such as Wunder Under or Steam-a-Seam. This makes the heart a little firmer to the touch. If you wish to keep the heart softer to the touch, simply cut out the center portion of the fusible web heart -- then only the edge of the heart is fused.

If the quilt is to be washed, the edges of the fused pattern must be stitched. Often a blanket stitch either by hand or machine is applied, or a satin stitch (a tight zigzag) by machine.
